This visit is part of the ongoing cooperation programs between the two institutions and aims to strengthen academic ties, facilitate the exchange of experiences, and enhance joint activities in the fields of scientific research and education.
The visiting representatives of the University of Belgrade delivered a series of academic lectures and participated in discussions in the field of civil engineering, thereby enriching the academic activities of the University and contributing to the further development of professional and scientific cooperation between the two institutions.
In response to contemporary water-related challenges, such as water resources conservation and protection against its harmful impacts on humans and the environment, the international association Belt and Road International Water Alliance (BRIWA) was established on October 25, 2025, in Nanjing, China, under the auspices of the Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute (NHRI), which celebrates 90 years of its existence in 2025.
Among the invited founding organizations is the Serbian Society for Hydraulic Research and Hydrology (SDHIH), recognized as a prominent hydraulic research and engineering association in the Balkan region.
The aim of BRIWA is to provide support for water-related research, improving the dissemination of contemporary knowledge and technologies, enhancing the visibility of issues related to the preservation of water resources, fostering research collaboration, and others.
The Alliance has received the support of the International Association for Hydro-Environmental Engineering and Research (IAHR), one of the world’s most prominent international water research associations.

Stanford University and the international academic publisher Elsevier have published a list of the world’s top 2% most influential scientists. The rankings were created based on citations from the SCOPUS database, as of August 1, 2025, analyzing six citation parameters.
We are proud that our Prof. Dr. Snežana Marković and Prof. Dr. Serafim Opricović (1943–2025) appear both on the career list for overall contribution and on the list for the year 2025.
Prof. Marković primarily focuses on research in the field of concrete structures design according to their service life. A particular focus of her scientific research is directed toward environmentally efficient alternatives to traditional concrete and the life cycle analysis of concrete structures.
The recently deceased Prof. Opricović worked on the application of operations research in engineering fields. The VIKOR method (VIšeKriterijumska Optimizacija i KOmpromisno Rangiranje – Multi-criteria Optimization and Compromise Ranking), developed by Prof. Opricović, is one of the first methods in the field of multi-criteria optimization worldwide and continues to be widely used.
The Association of Structural Engineers of Serbia (ASES), in cooperation with the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the University of Belgrade and the Faculty of Technical Sciences at the University of Novi Sad, is organizing a congress to be held from September 23 to 25, 2026, at the “Tonanti” Hotel in Vrnjačka Banja.

Our colleague, asst. prof. dr. Uroš Đurić, delivered a guest lecture on June 24, 2025, at Uppsala University, Sweden, as part of the Geophysics Program within the Department of Earth Sciences (internal seminar).
The lecture, titled "From Field Data to Risk Maps: An Introduction to Quantitative Landslide Risk Assessment," was attended by 15 researchers, professors, and PhD students.
This was one of the rare internally organized geotechnical-oriented seminars within the Geophysics Program at the Department, giving it special significance in fostering interdisciplinary connections—particularly in the context of landslide risk research in so-called “quick clay” formations, which represent a significant geohazard in Sweden.
In addition to the lecture, a meeting was held with representatives of Uppsala University’s “Smart Exploration Research Center”, during which potential opportunities for collaboration and joint participation in scientific projects were discussed.
The host and organizer of the lecture was Dr. Magdalena Marković Juhlin, asst. prof. of Applied Geophysics and Innovation Coordinator at the aforementioned center.
On Thursday, June, 12, 2025. at the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Belgrade, Danilo Joksimović, MSc Geodesy, defended his PhD thesis:
